Russian nesting dolls, also known as a Matryoshka doll. Typically made with linden wood, hand-painted and hand-carved. The Cyrillic text translates to “Borisov Ya” possibly indicating the artist’s name. These symbolize the Russian babushka, a strong female matriarch and a central figure in the traditional Russian family. The painting on the dolls features a depiction of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow’s Red Square on the lower half of the doll.
